Testimonial for Mary Kay Evans, Care Pathways
October 12, 2008
Dear Mary Kay,
As you know, my dad is 91, has some Alzheimer's, and has suddenly declined to the point where he's barely mobile with his walker, and unable to get himself into the bathroom any more.
I've had to bring him twice in two weeks to the ER of St. Jude Hospital recently, and would have been left in a lurch, largely to my own devices, had it not been for the Case Workers there, who provided useful "senior referral" handouts and whole-heartedly referred me to you. The ER doctors and staff, once they felt a situation was no longer life-threatening, were just going to release my dad, and we could no longer cope at home. What were we going to do?
You patiently explained some options to me and made specific recommendations and referrals, which we followed up on immediately. Your referrals were excellent.
You followed up with me, and when I ran into another medical problem at home, your advice to get my father back to the ER immediately saved his life! His bladder was so backed up at that point, his being unable to urinate, that it could have burst. There weren't any doctors available to check with, to advise us.
I was told in ER that a typical person needing to get to the bathroom in a hurry may eliminate 500 cc's of urine. They drained 6000 cc's from him!
Your advice helped me get him admitted to the hospital and held for the 3 nights’ minimum making him eligible for Medicare to provide some coverage of a needed Skilled Nursing home. He was so fortunate to be able to get into Park Vista.
It was your guidance, along with being pointed in the right direction by the Case Workers at St. Jude, which has been a God-send to us at a very bewildering time! It wasn't just kind words, it was concrete advice and actionable recommendations.
Until people start having to deal with these things, they have no idea how to proceed. The ubiquitous "ask your doctor" tag in TV pharmaceutical commercials is laughable, because they're so busy and their time is so scarce, they simply cannot do it by themselves.
Dedicated, objective, experienced health care advisors like you provide an incredibly needed, valuable resource to the families of seniors.
I am so grateful for your help! And the least I could do was submit a little something here as a testimonial for your selfless work.
Many thanks!

Reference Letters
We are proud of what we do and proud to share with you some testimonials and reference letters from our clients! Our highest compliment is a satisfied client! Following are some reference letters we would love to share with you.
To Whom It May Concern:
Care Pathways was a tremendously valuable service to my family.
When my grandmother needed in placement my sister and I were very worried. We both lived far away and didn't know anyone in Orange County CA who we could trust. Through ST Jude hospital, my sister discovered Care Pathways and they were extremely helpful to us during this difficult time.
Mary Kay Evans helped us navigate all the various options for my grandmother and skillfully directed us. The social worker assigned to finding the right place for my grandmother and arranging for long term care was so caring and kept us informed every step of the way. Suddenly, we felt like we had family members in CA to advise us and to make sure my grandmother was properly taken care of.
My sister and I will always remember the excellent and most helpful service Care Pathways provided us.
Dear Mary Kay:
I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your very prompt and professional response to my request for coordination of medical and therapeutic assistance during a most difficult post-operative period, after facial and neck surgery.
During a time that I was unaware that I was in crisis, your prompt recognition and assessment of my medical condition, coupled with the appropriate referrals, averted potentially serious and permanent damage to my eyesight. You were instrumental in coordinating my care and helping me weed my way through the maze of options that I had.
After the medical crisis, you developed and coordinated a plan of care with a team of professionals, including medical treatment and rehabilitation therapy that is still ongoing today.
Again, my sincere thanks for all that you did in helping me through a most difficult period.
Dear Mary Kay:
Thank you so much for your company’s assistance in locating a living facility for my mother.
As you know, this was not an easy decision and your facilitation of the process was invaluable. Even though I am a healthcare professional myself, I felt overwhelmed by the task but you gave me several informed decisions.
My mother is now settled in at the new place and I am comfortable with the facility’s care and their staff, as well as the added bonus of it being closer to my home.
Thank you again for your help and professionalism.

Orange County Adult Protective Services
Dear Mary Kay,
My family and I could have not made the most difficult decision without your help to find the right facility for our Father. Your kindness and taking the time to listen to all our concerns gave our family a comfort level we had not been able to find elsewhere. We only wish we had known about you sooner as it would have saved us much stress when we needed answers. You covered all the bases and made sure that our Father was matched to the right facility to meet all his needs. For that we will always be grateful.
Sincerely,
Helen and Joyce Mitchell
